The Effects of Carnosine on Glycolysis of Ram Spermatozoa

  • Ram spermatozoa obtained energy from glycolysis and a vast amount of lactic acid was produced under the non-oxygen condition.In this paper,We studied the effects of carnosine and gossypol on the glycolytic pathway of the ram spermatozoa by examing the quantity of absorbed fructose and produced lactic acid in the sperm.The results indicated that:(1)Carnosine (4 Mm) significantly increased the glycolysis of ram spermatozoa and stimulated them to absorb the fructose.(2)Gossypol (12 Mm) had no inhibitory action on glycolysis of the ram spermatozoa,but could partly reduce the effects of carnosine on the glycolysis of them.
