基本科学指标数据库(Essential Science Indicators,简称ESI)是由世界著名的学术信息出版机构美国科技信息研究所(ISI)于2001年推出的衡量科学研究绩效、跟踪科学发展趋势的基本分析评价工具。ISI资产重组后,ESI成为科睿唯安(原汤森路透)公司的一部分。ESI是一个基于Web of Science数据库的深度分析型研究工具。基于期刊论文发表数量和引文数据,ESI提供对22个学科研究领域中的国家、研究机构、期刊、论文以及科学家进行统计分析和排序。其中,高被引论文(Highly Cited Paper)是指同一年同一个ESI 学科中发表的所有论文按被引用次数由高到低进行排序,排在前1% 的论文。热点论文(Hot Paper)是指某一ESI 学科最近2年发表的论文,按照其在最近2个月内的被引次数进行排序,进入前0.1% 的论文。
