The present paper deals with the caudal regicn muscle of 36 representative species of rays and skates of China,belonging to 19 genera,15 families and 4 crders.Cross section of the candal region muscle was made behind the clcaca.In general,the bundle of muscles can be divided into dorsomedian,dorsolateral,lateral,ventromedian,ventrolateral ones.In some species there are extermal lateral and external ventral bundles.The observation shows that morphological characters of muscles are closely connected with different ecological types.Four patterns and six subpatterns of caudal muscles of Chinese rays and skates are recognized,according to muscle structures in relation to body form,swimming efficiency and cther ecological factors.Based on the differences of muscle structure,a key to families of Chinese rays and skates is tentatively presented.
This is to report the observations on the brachial plexus of three species of Snub-nosed Monkeys.The results of this observation are briefly summarized as follows.
The light discrimination and retention in maze and in avoidance box were seriously impaired after bilateral large area electrolytic lesions of the hippocampus in rats.The impairment involved not only the responses learned before operation but also the relearning ability.No effect was found in those animals with lesion of equal amount of area in cortical area.The results of local electrotytic lesion on dorsal or ventral hippocampus showed that the ventral part of hippocampus played an important role in light discrimination retention in maze while the dorsal part of hippocampus was not essential to these responses.
The lymphocyte subpopulations in peripheral blood of Macaca mulatta,M.assamensis,M.nemestrina,M.speciosa and Tupaia belangeri and in lymphoid tissues of M.mulatta were determined with markesr,such as AET or neuraminidase treated sheep red blood cell (EAET or EVCN),zymosan-yeast-complement complex (ZYC) and stump-tailed m nkey (M.speciosa) red blood cell (SMRBC).The main results of peripheral blood lymphocytes were seen in Table 3.The percentages of EAET RFC in thymus,spleen and lymph node of M.mulatta were 95.2±2.9,28.8±10.3 and 44.8±6.2,respectively.The double marking with ZYC and SMRBC showed that SMRBC rosette formation cells of M.mulatta were not B cells.Finally,the results were compared with those from other authors.
Nuclei were prepared from adult rat liver by a slightly modified ultracentrifugation method,with a yield of about 5%.The quality of rat liver nuclei has been ascertained by observations with the phase contract microscope,electron microscope,transcriptional activity and estimations of enzyme activity.The chromatin of rat liver was fractionated by the method of hydroxyapatite (HAP) chromatography.The U.V.spectrum of each fraction was obtained individually.The chemical compositions of the nuclei,chromatin,Up (a group of nonhistone proteins binding DNA loosly),deUpgchromatin and each fraction from HAP were determined.NP (a group of nonhistone proteins binding DNA tightly) were extracted from deUP-chromatin with phenol.UP and NP were analysed by two dimensional gel electrophoresis.
Three kinds of horse anti-sera against the venom of Agkistrodon halys (Palls),I.e.the crode whole serum,the antivenin purified by ammonium sulphate precipitation and the antivenin digested with pepsin and purified by ammonium sulphate precipitation were compared by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis.The results show that the third kind of antivenin is apparently different from the other two kinds and it shows only one obvious the antibody protein band on polyacrylamide gel electrophoretic pattern.The antibody protein corresponds to the IgG of normal horse serum.
